Clone art style
Use images you like to clone your own art style and save it to “my art styles”; later, when you choose an art style for a new comic, it appears at the front.
Where to start
There are three entry points:
- Art style picker: in the first tile of the thumbnail strip, choose “Copy a style”, then click “Upload image”; or drag images straight into the window.
- Assets page: click “Assets” in the left sidebar on the home page, choose the first “New” tile, then switch to the “Styles” section.
- Home page(when you are not signed in yet): click “Copy a style”. Wapopo will ask you to sign in first, then take you to the assets page to continue.
What images to upload
- 1 to 5 images. More images usually means a closer match. Images with the same technique work best.
- We accept png, jpg, and webp. Each image must be 10 MB or less.
- You can also paste a screenshot directly.
If an image cannot be used, we will tell you the reason right away, one by one. For example, the format is wrong, the file is too large, or the image is a duplicate.
What does it learn? It only learns “how it is drawn”: lines, light and shadow, colors, and texture. It does not learn “what is drawn”: if you upload an image of a cat, the cloned art style will draw people with that technique. It will not put cats everywhere.
The clone steps
After you click “Extract art style →”:
- Extract the technique: Wapopo summarizes the technique from the images you uploaded. Extracting the technique itself does not cost credits.
- Draw art style cards: Wapopo draws 4 cards with this technique: one cover, plus one location, one character, and one prop, so you can check whether it looks right.
- Name and save it: AI gives it a name first. You can change it, up to 12 characters.
Drawing the cards takes a little while. You can click “Leave it for now” and do something else, then come back to the assets page when they are ready.
Does it look right?
After the cards are ready, a pop-up will show you the result:
- Looks right, next: go name it, then click “Save to my art styles”;
- Does not look right, re-extract: use the same images to extract again and draw 4 new cards;
- Use different images: choose a different set of images and try again;
- Give up cloning: stop here. It will no longer appear in assets.
Each extraction draws 4 cards and costs credits for 4 images(100 each). So “Re-extract” and “Use different images” both cost credits again. If you do not have enough credits, this attempt will stop and a not-enough-credits window will appear.
There are also a few limits: you can extract up to 3 styles at the same time; you can clone up to 30 styles in 24 hours; one style can be extracted up to 5 times. If it still does not look right, use different images and start again.
After you save it
Saved art styles appear in two places:
- in the art style picker, before the official styles;
- on the assets page, as a book card labeled “My / version N”.
Open it to see the art style cards and the images you uploaded. You can also “Rename”, “Delete”, or “Recreate with new images”.
What happens when I recreate with new images? It will be saved as a new version of this art style. Comics that already started drawing will keep using the old version. New comics will use the latest version. This way, changing an art style will not make an in-progress comic look inconsistent from one part to another.
If you delete an art style, it will no longer appear in assets or in the art style picker. Comics that already started drawing with it are not affected.
Source art style
When you make a fan comic, you can choose “Use source art style” while importing source work screenshots: Wapopo extracts a technique from the source work screenshots. This kind of art style does not draw cards and does not cost credits. It is marked “Source art style” next to the name.
If you do not use it by the end of this import, the system will automatically put it away. See “Start from a source work”.
