Memory

To see, edit, or delete what the assistant remembers, click “Memory” at the top of the panel. It has two layers: “Use for all comics” and “This comic.”

Where to find it

Open the assistant in the lower right. At the top of the panel, there is a “Memory” button. Click it to cover the chat and list every item it remembers. Click “‹ Memory” in the upper left, or press Esc, to go back to the chat.

Every time the assistant starts a new round of work, it reads all the memories here.

Two layers

  • Use for all comics: who you are, what you are working on recently, and your preferences. This follows you, so every comic can read it.
  • This comic: decisions made in this comic, and problems already found. Each comic has its own copy. They do not share with each other.

On the right of each layer, you can see how many items it has now and the maximum number allowed. Each layer can have up to 30 items. Each item can have up to 500 characters. When a layer is full, you will see a note at the top of that layer: delete a few items before the AI can remember new ones.

Why is there a limit? It has to read all memories every round. The more it remembers, the slower it gets, and the more likely it is to be pulled off track by old or unrelated things. A small and accurate memory is more useful than a large and messy one.

Edit and delete

  • Edit: click any item to edit it. Stop typing for a moment and it saves automatically. You will see “Saving…” and “Saved”. After you edit an item, the label under it changes from “Saved by AI” to “Written by you”. Your version takes priority.
  • Delete: hover over an item. A trash icon appears in the upper right. Click it to delete the item. An undo bar appears at the bottom, and you can bring it back within 5 seconds.

There is no “Add new item” button in the panel. If you want it to remember something, just tell it in the chat. For example: “From now on, make the dialogue shorter. Remember this.”

What it remembers

It only remembers things you said yourself, and it remembers them in the same round. You do not need to remind it:

  • Identity: things that are still true when you switch to another comic;
  • Preferences: how you want it to work, such as giving a plan first or starting right away, and speaking in detail or keeping it short;
  • What you are working on recently: it only keeps the latest one;
  • Decisions (saved in this comic): things you decided for this comic;
  • Problems (saved in this comic): places where it noticed that using something a certain way can cause issues.

It will not treat choices in this comic as your personal taste. For example, if you chose a dark tone for this comic, that does not mean you always like dark tones, unless you said so yourself.

What it will not remember

  • Its own guesses and suggestions, even if you used them;
  • Things that expire quickly, like where you stopped today;
  • Things that already exist in the comic, such as how many episodes it has or which page you are on;
  • Sensitive personal information: ethnicity, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, health, political views, financial status, mental health, ID documents, home address, phone, and anything related to children.

For example, if you say, “This story is actually about my dad. I want to write it with restraint,” it will follow that in the current round, but it will only remember “write this part with restraint.” It will not remember your family details.

When it saves a memory, it does not say so in the chat or show a receipt. If you want to know what it remembered, open “Memory” anytime. If something is wrong, edit it or delete it.
