Interface language
Change the interface language from the account menu. Dialogue inside a comic is written in that comic’s own language. It is separate from the interface language.
Two languages
Wapopo has two kinds of “language”. Do not mix them up:
- Interface language: The language used for buttons, menus, and messages. You can change it anytime.
- Comic language: The language used to write this comic. The synopsis, story elements, dialogue, and the assistant’s replies all use it. It is set after the comic is created.
Change the interface language
You can change it in a few places:
- Account menu: Click your account in the lower-left corner. The row above “Settings” shows the current language. Click it to change languages;
- Settings: “Language” in “Profile”;
- At the top of the home page, login page, and tutorial page, there is an “Interface language” dropdown.
You can search at the top of the list. Each language is written in its own name. Your choice takes effect right away.
If you are signed in, the new language is saved to your account. When you sign in on another device, Wapopo will use the same language. If you are not signed in yet, it is only saved on this device. It will be added to your account when you sign up.
Which language Wapopo uses at first: if you are signed in, it uses the language saved in your account. If you are not signed in, it uses the language last used on this device. If there is none, it uses your browser language. If Wapopo cannot recognize it, it uses English.
Wapopo currently supports 16 interface languages. If a sentence has not been translated yet, it is shown in English first.
Comic language
The comic language is set when you create the comic. It is the interface language you were using at that time. After the comic is created, it does not change. Changing the interface language will not change it.
It does not check what language you used to write your story idea. For example, if the interface is in English and you write a story idea in Chinese, the assistant will still write this comic in English. If you want to write in another language, change the interface language first, then create a new comic.
These follow the comic language:
- Everything the assistant writes: synopsis, element cards, panel descriptions, dialogue, captions, SFX, and the replies it sends in the chat;
- Fonts for dialogue bubbles and captions, including when you export.
These follow the interface language:
- Buttons, menus, and messages;
- Error messages.
Want to make a Japanese comic with a Chinese interface? Change the interface to Japanese first, create the comic, then change the interface back to Chinese. The comic language is set when you create the comic. After that, your interface language will not affect it.
The assistant may sometimes write content that is not in the comic language. It will rewrite it on its own. If it is still not right, the receipt will show a note like “May not be [language]”. The panel description will also remind you to take a look.
