Cast list

Who is in this episode or panel, and where they are. When Wapopo draws, it uses the images from the element cards in the list.

Two lists

There are two cast lists in Wapopo. They look the same, but they do different things:

  • This episode’s list: under the “This episode’s synopsis” heading, labeled “Appearances”. It is the default value, and is copied in once only when you create a new panel. Changing it does not change panels that already exist.
  • This panel’s list: in a panel’s details, called “Cast list”. This is what actually decides who is drawn in this panel, and where they are drawn.

How to edit the list

The list is made of small name tags. Each avatar is the image from that element card.

  • Add: click “+ Add character or location” (the episode-level list says “+ Add”). A card picker opens. Cards are grouped by character, location, and prop, and you can search at the top.
  • Remove: hover over a name tag. An ✕ appears in the top-right corner.
  • Change: click a name tag, then choose “Change to another…”. You can also choose “View this card” to jump straight to its story elements.

When you pick a card, cards that do not have an image yet are marked “No image”. You can add them to the list, but they cannot be used as reference images. That panel can only describe them in text.

Worldbuilding cards are not picked here. They are automatically included in every panel. See “Worldbuilding”.

Why the list matters

When Wapopo draws a panel, it uses the current image on each card in the list as a reference image. It tells the image model, “this person looks like this.” This is what keeps the same character looking the same in every panel.

The rough priority for reference images is:

  1. The first character or prop in the list, which is the focus of this panel;
  2. The previous panel’s image, when this panel is drawn as “continuing from the previous panel”;
  3. The location;
  4. Other characters, then other props.

So put the most important character in this panel first in the list. Each panel can use up to 7 reference images. Cards later in the list that do not fit, or cards that do not have images yet, can only be handled through text.

If the list is empty, the panel is an empty shot with no characters.

Why do I need to redraw after changing the list? The list is the set of reference images used to draw this panel. If you change who is in the list (changing only the order does not count), the existing drawing no longer matches the list. This panel will be marked “Old draft” until you decide whether to redraw it.

The “Appearances” table in page details

Open a page. On the right, there is an “Appearances” card. It turns the list for every panel on this page into a table: each column is a panel, and each row is a card.

  • A solid dot in a cell: this panel’s list includes this card, so its image will be used;
  • “left / center / right” in a character’s row: which side of the image the character stands on;
  • Hollow circle: this location is not attached to the list, but Wapopo follows the surrounding context and draws it here;
  • Gray circle: the card is in the list, but the reference image slots are full, so this image is not included and only text is used;
  • Pale dot: the card does not have an image yet, so only text is used.

Hover over a cell, and it will also tell you which way the character faces, what they wear, and what they are holding. The column header has a “Shot” row, showing the shot size for this panel, such as long shot, full shot, medium shot, close shot, or close-up. The assistant writes this when it splits the page into panels.

Hover over a row, and the panels where this card appears on the full page on the left will light up while the others fade. Hover over a column header, and only that panel will light up.

If a panel has a description but Wapopo does not know where it is, the table will show a “Where” row, and that panel will be marked red as “Missing”. Without a location, the drawn place may be inconsistent. Just add a location to it.
