Episode synopsis
What this episode is about and who appears. The assistant uses it to arrange pages, split panels, and write panel descriptions.
Where it is
Click “Production” in the vertical bar, then choose an episode. “Synopsis” is the first of the three tabs at the top of the main panel. The left side of the top bar says “Episode N · episode title”, so you can tell it apart from the overall synopsis in planning.
What to write
Like the planning synopsis, this is a sheet of paper where you can write freely. The formatting bar is the same, too. The title above the paper is “Episode N · episode title”. When it is empty, it prompts you: “What’s this episode in one sentence?”
When the assistant makes this episode, its first step is to write this. It uses five level 1 headings:
- One sentence: what this episode is about;
- Connect from previous episode: where it picks up from;
- This episode: the setup, development, climax, and ending;
- Page breakdown: roughly which pages it will be split into;
- Leave for next episode: what hook the ending leaves.
These are only suggestions. You can change the headings and paragraphs. It auto-saves after you stop typing for a second or click elsewhere.
Why have “Connect from previous episode” and “Leave for next episode”? If you only focus on this episode, it can easily feel like an island. Before the assistant makes each episode, it first reads the overall synopsis and pacing, then looks at the two episodes before and after it. These two sections help it connect this episode to what comes before and after.
How it relates to the planning synopsis
This episode synopsis and the overall synopsis in planning are stored separately: changing this one does not change the overall synopsis, and the reverse is also true.
It also will not automatically change pages or panels that are already arranged. After you change this episode synopsis, if you want the pacing and storyboard to change with it, tell the assistant in the lower right. For example: “Rearrange page 3 based on the new synopsis.”
The row under the title
In the row under the title, “Appearances” is on the left, and “Beat pins N ›” is on the right.
- Appearances: the default cast list for this episode. Click “+ Add” to choose a card. Click a name tag to replace or remove someone. It is only brought in once when a new panel is created (when you add a page, or when changing the layout creates extra panels). Existing panels are not affected, and changing it will not turn any panel into an old draft. Each panel’s own cast list is what truly decides who is drawn. See “Cast list”.
- Beat pins N ›: click to see the beats pinned to this episode from pacing. Each beat says which page it has been assigned to, or “Not on a page yet”. You can only view them here. To change them, click “Edit in pacing ›”.
