Pacing for this episode

How many pages this episode has, and how tense each page is. One page is one point. Drag to edit it, and to change the page order. Beat pins are assigned to specific pages here.

Top section: the curve of this episode

In production, the “Pacing” tab has a top section that looks a lot like planning pacing. The difference is that here, one page is one point.

Intensity still has the same five levels: transition · setup · development · turn · climax.

  • Change intensity: press and drag a point up or down. When you release it, it snaps to the closest level. If a page does not have an intensity yet, its point is hollow.
  • Change page order: press and drag the page name sideways.
  • Delete a page: use “Delete” on the page name row.

The row under the curve shows each page. It shows the page number, layout name, intensity, number of beats, and number of panels.

Add a new page

Click “Add” in the top right of the top bar. Choose a layout set first, then click “Build pages with this set”. The new page is added at the end. The default cast list for this episode is brought into every panel on the new page.

Clicking “Add” in the storyboard works the same way. Both places create the same page.

Bottom section: assign beats to pages

The bottom section is called “Beat design”. The leftmost column is “Not on a page yet”. After that, each page has its own column.

At first, all beat pins for this episode are in “Not on a page yet”. Drag a pin under a page column, and it belongs to that page. The top right shows how many are still not on a page.

Click a pin, or click an empty area, to open “This beat” or “Pin a beat”. Write the beat name and beat details, then click a page number under “Which page it goes on”.

Note: The beat pins here are the same set as the ones in planning pacing. If you pin a new one here, you can also see it in planning. If you “Unpin” a pin here, that same one is also removed from planning pacing.

What happens when you delete a page

After you delete a page, an undo bar appears at the bottom. You can bring it back within 5 seconds. It is only really deleted after 5 seconds:

  • The panels and images on this page are deleted together. The images stay in the gallery;
  • Beat pins assigned to this page go back to “Not on a page yet”;
  • Later pages automatically move up and get new numbers.

If the assistant wants to delete a page that has images, it will show you a checklist first and ask you.

How the assistant paces

The second step in making an episode is “arrange pacing”. The assistant splits the episode into pages based on the synopsis. In general, one beat becomes one page. It sets the intensity for each page and assigns beat pins to pages. In the next step, “split into panels”, it chooses a layout for each page and writes each panel.

After pacing is arranged, you can edit it anytime. Drag points, change the order, and move pins. These edits do not cost credits.
